Dual Enrollment Options

Mankato Christian Academy offers a number of opportunities for students to earn college credit while in high school. These options include:

  • Post-Secondary Enrollment Option (PSEO) - online

  • College in the School (CIS)

  • Online asynchronous courses (not via PSEO program)

Overview of Dual Enrollment Options

Post-Secondary Enrollment Option:

PSEO is a program open to Minnesota's high school juniors and seniors, allowing them to take college courses while they are in high school, at no additional cost to the student. MCA students may take courses part-time at a nerby college or university or through distance learning if they meet the admission requirements of the school to which they are applying and if their classes at MCA can be worked out to accomodate their off-campus schedule.

Things to consider about online courses:

  • Online students must be self-motivated and mature as they will be solely responsible for their learning.

  • While the format of the online classes is flexible, students should expect to have nightly and/or weekly homework, tests, projects, or papers. Students must be disciplined to follow the designed scope and sequence of the course in order to be successful.

  • Each partnering institution has different policies for the completion of online work, grading, tests, late work, and other educational practices with which students must comply.

  • While MCA will facilitate enrollment into these courses and recognize this coursework on a student’s transcript, the student and parents will primarily be dealing with the online instructor and partnering institution primarily via email.

MCA guidelines for students interested in applying for PSEO:

  • MCA reserves the right to not accept certain courses towards the necessary credits for graduation.

  • Students must meet the GPA requirements of the institution in which they are enrolling.

  • The student will comply with all policies relating to MCA as if they were a full-time student. Students taking PSEO courses may participate in all co-curricular programs at MCA.

  • All courses taken through PSEO that are necessary for graduation from MCA will appear on the student’s high school transcript.

  • The family will pay full tuition at MCA and will be credited a determined amount per class, after MCA has received the transcript indicating grade and credits following the completion of the course. All other MCA fees still apply.

  • Refer to the MCA course catalog for information on credit earned within a PSEO class.

  • MCA does not allow for full-time PSEO students.

Students may enroll in PSEO courses through Crown College, Bethany Lutheran College or other institutions but must receive approval from their school counselor or the director of student services. Students interested in pursuing PSEO courses for the first time should apply for admittance to the institution from which they wish to take classes during the spring registration period. For each new semester that students wish to take PSEO courses, they should submit the state PSEO form to their school counselor or the director of student services who will sent it to the institution.

CIS (College in the Schools)

MCA partners with Crown College to offer college courses to qualified juniors and seniors on MCA’s campus. These courses are taught during the regular school day by instructors who have been trained and contracted by the college. The content, textbook, and course syllabus are determined by the college and are equivalent to that which is being taught at the respective college under a similar course name. Students must meet the GPA requirements of the college for admission into their PSOS program in order to enroll in these courses. MCA students enrolling in these courses can expect the rigor of a college course and at the same time receive both high school and, for those students completing the course with a C or higher, college credit. There may be a minimum number of MCA students needed per course for any of the courses to be offered at MCA.

**Minimum GPA requirement at Crown is 3.0.

Bethany Lutheran College

MCA partners with Bethany Lutheran College to offer college courses to qualified juniors and seniors in a fully online (asynchronous) format. This program, which is not part of the PSEO program, is a special agreement between MCA and BLC. Please note the following:

  • There is an additional cost to take a dual credit course that the student will be responsible for paying.

  • Course offerings vary from term to term. Check here for a current list of available options.

  • All courses must be approved by parents and the MCA administration.

  • Dual credit courses are college level courses and as such have a more rigorous curriculum. How you perform in a dual credit course will impact your GPA and progress to degree completion at MCA.
